My First Day At School’ 2018- Why parents must enrol their children at the right age

Image
One of the most nerve-wracking moments in every learner’s life is their first day in school, at whatever level of the education system. This is quite understandable, because it is a foray into uncharted waters away from one’s comfort zone. Particularly for entrants into Kindergarten (KG) and Primary One, this can be a nervous time.       ‘My First Day At School’ programme  To complement the efforts of school leaders to facilitate children’s entry  into the education system, the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ghana Education Service (GES) have collaborated to establish a programme dubbed “My First Day At School”, an annual event to welcome KG and Primary One pupils at the beginning of the academic year. The occasion provides a platform for the Education Minister, his deputies, other ministers and senior manageme...

Don't wish for our downfall - Zylofon Media

Image
The lack of investment in Ghana’s entertainment industry has certainly affected its progress and the entry of Zylofon Media two years ago, should have been good news for the sector. However, the outfit, which has musicians like Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Becca, Kumi Guitar, Obibini among others in its books, has faced constant criticism in its activities; be it how much they spend on their signees, how they handle them among others. Recently, after the poor reception its signees received at a concert to celebrate Zylofon Media and its sister company, Menzgold’s entry into Nigeria, the company itself received a lot of the backlash from the event. And in an interview with Showbiz about the attacks, Communications Director of Zylofon Music, Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo, said some of the criticisms were destructive and only seek Zylofon’s downfall. “Zylofon is not beyond criticisms because every entity that wants success considers differing views but some comments and views expressed do...

Uganda bans rallies by supporters of pop star ahead of his return from U.S

Image
Uganda on Wednesday banned rallies to welcome a prominent opponent of President Yoweri Museveni home from the United States where he received treatment for injuries he said were sustained during torture by security forces. The homecoming of Robert Kyagulanyi, a pop star and opposition lawmaker, could present a significant challenge to Museveni, who has ruled since 1986. Kyagulanyi, 36, attracted a youth following through songs critical of Museveni and his prominence rose due to an incident in August in which his driver was shot dead and he was detained and charged with treason over what authorities said was the stoning of Museveni’s convoy. He said in a tweet on Wednesday he was “headed home” and showed a picture of himself at an airport holding a walking stick. Police said they had received information that supporters of Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, planned to stage rallies and processions on his return but had not sought permission. “As a result, they (the ral...
