Party (NPP) flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo
says Ghana has a lost a principled Police Officer in the late
DCOP Angwubutoge Awuni.
The Eastern Regional Police Commander died Monday dawn
after an illness at the Police Hospital in Accra.
One of Ghana’s fine police officers, DCOP will be
remembered for his bluntness in making his position known
on issues.
While in office, he had brushes with political authorities
including the former Greater Accra Regional Minister Nii
Armah Ashietey and the Chief Executive Officer of Accra
Metropolitan Assembly, Dr Okoe Vanderpuye, his actions
were thought by many observers to be rare among serving
police officers.
DCOP headed the Motor Traffic and Transport Department
(MTTD) before being moved to the Eastern region as the
commander last December.
Commenting on DCOP Awuni’s death, Nana Akufo Addo
tweeted: “Saddened by the news of ACP Awuni’s death.
Condolences to his family; may he rest in peace. Ghana has
lost a fine, principled Police Officer.”

DCOP Awuni was an accredited member and a Council
Member of the Institute of Public Relations, Ghana.
He served in the Police Service from 1980 and held various
positions such as Director of Public Relations, District
Police Commander, Divisional Police Commander, Regional
Police Commander and Commanding officer-MTTU.
Mr. Awuni held an M.A in Governance and Leadership from
GIMPA, a Diploma in Journalism from GIJ and has vast
experience in United Nations Missions Abroad with
experience in countries such as Namibia, Bosnia and
