MANY are those who know ace highlife singer, Daasebre Gyamenah as “Ahoofe”, a name his fans gave him after the release of his hit song, “Ahoofe”, which literally means beautiful or the handsome one. One other name that the singer has in his “portmanteau” that many of his fans may not know is Abubakar Siddiq.  Daasebre is a Muslim and Abubakar Siddiq is his Islamic name. “Daasebre was born into Islam. His late mother was a Muslim who died when Daasebre was only five years old.  Daasebre was christened as Kojo Gyamenah and as a royal he later added “Daasebre” to distinguish himself from others with the same name.  Later on in his life he adopted the Islamic name in line with his faith.  Daasebre Dwamena has passed away at 37 Millitary Hospital this morning. May his soul rest in peace

Release agreement on Gitmo 2 – Supreme Court orders gov’t

The Supreme Court has ordered the release of the agreement between the Ghanaian government and the United States government with respect to the former’s acceptance of two Guantanamo Bay detainees into the country. The release of the documents, according to the court, is to be made available only to the lawyers in t he matter. This followed the submission of the verbal agreement otherwise referred to as “Note Verbalizes” in diplomatic circles between the Government of Ghana and its American counterpart, to the court on July 12, 2016, by the Attorney General. This was because the agreement, according to the AG, was confidential and any disclosure in the public or open court would violate section 1 of the State Secrets ACT, 1962 (Act 101). The Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho on Monday ordered the Minister of Communications, Edward Omane Boamah to immediately ensure that his ministry pays the electricity bills of the Assembly Press which is under his ministry to enable it print important documents to enhance the work of parliament. BusinessNews: Samsung profits boosted by smartphone sales

 Strong smartphone sales have helped Samsung Electronics post its best quarterly results in more than two years. Second-quarter operating profit jumped 18% to 8.1tn Korean won ($7.17bn; £5.46bn), in line with the company's guidance issued in July. Operating profit at its mobile division soared 57% year-on- year to 4.3tn won. That is mainly driven by strong sales of its Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone models. Samsung predicts continued increase in demand for its smartphones and tablets in the second half of the year. But the company also indicated that "market competition is expected to strengthen as other companies release new mobile devices". Samsung is confident that the release of a new large-screen flagship smartphone in the third quarter will help maintain the track record of its smartphone sales. The Petroleum Minister, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has said that Ghana has paid 30 million dollars of the reported 140 million dollars it owes the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) The company indicated in June 2016, that it had cut supply of gas to Ghana over the failure of government to pay its bills. There have been suggestions that recent power cuts are as a result of Wapco’s decision to cut gas supply to Ghana. However, Armah Kofi Buah, speaking after the Finance Minister, Seth Terkper, presented the supplementary budget to parliament on Monday, dismissed those assertions. Actually he use to abuse the wife due to some domestic issues and one day IGP visited us at Tema in the deep night unfortunately met the wife making a report at the Rlys and Port station against the husband and when got to know he was a police officer,  he ordered his detention that night and later during the day he was released on bail.

The court invited the journalist from Class FM, Nabil Ahmed after a heated argument between the prosecutor and defence counsel during the evidence in chief of Hajia Zainabu Adams, the wife of the deceased. Business News: BoG to announce policy rate after 71st MPC meeting

The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) will today announce its policy rate as it concludes the 71st regular meeting to review developments in the economy. Today’s media briefing on the policy rate which will be the second for Governor, Dr. Abdul  Nashir Issahaku, is among other things expected to address some major issues affecting the economy. Some of the issues likely to come up today will be the central bank’s strategy to tame inflation, which is still hovering around 18 percent; against a target of 8 percent plus or minus 2. Dr. Issahaku  is also expected to comment on the impact of the  Deposit Protection Bill  and the debacle that has hit the macro finance sub-sector in recent times. In addition, the central bank will outline more efforts aimed at achieving a continuous stabilization of the cedi as well as meeting the conditions outlined in the agreement with the IMF under the economic assistance program.
